Tools of the Mind Preschools help children improve self-regulation and executive function by emphasizing intentional, make-believe play, and they have a strong track record of helping children be ready for Kindergarten. HEA is currently partnering with 21 preschool classrooms across Elkhart County to implement this evidence-based curriculum, helping to deliver high quality preschool to hundreds of area children.

21st-Century Teaching & Learning supports schools in implementing innovative designs such as project-based learning and cross-curricular integration. HEA is helping connect area schools to local, regional and national partners who are at the forefront of this movement. STE(A)M is one of our local initiatives, with Elkhart-based ETHOS leading the countywide STEM implementation and HEA coordinating a build-out of the arts (A) component.
Early College High Schools are being pursued at all Elkhart County public high schools in what will be the most comprehensive implementation in Indiana. The “school within a school” model increases rigor and then helps low-income and 1st generation students reach goals they thought were unattainable. HEA and area schools are partnering with Ivy Tech Community College to enable students to earn post-secondary credits and credentials–up to an associate degree–at no cost to the student.
High School Equivalency provides a flexible, innovative option for Elkhart County adults returning to school to get a high school diploma and begin their post-secondary education. This initiative, formerly known as GED, is funded through the Region 2 Adult Education Consortium, and it offers a non-traditional, high performing program that combines computer-based instruction with focused, hands-on, classroom-based learning.
