Elkhart County Invited to Apply for Pre K Funding

Horizon Education Alliance (HEA), Elkhart Community Schools, and Head Start will be working together to prepare for the Indiana State Board of Education's (SBOE) application in hopes to be one of the five counties chosen to recieve funding and launch a pilot program for Pre-K.

Dr. Bruce Stahly, HEA Early Learning Coordinator and former Superintendent of Goshen Community Schools; Dr. Aliah Carolan-Silva, HEA Director of Research; and Kim Boynton, Director of Grant Development and Pre-K services for Elkhart Community Schools along with representatives from all Elkhart county schools and several area preschools have formed an Early Childhood committee that has focused on determining the best practices for Pre-K, a definition for “kindergarten-readiness” and what preschool curriculums should look like.

Funding will enable low income families apply and pay for high quality preschool programs in Elkhart County. HEA will play a key role in writing the grant application that is to be submitted on June 30th.
